A Cape Girardeau man was sentenced to 40 months in prison for his role in stealing a pistol from a gun store in Cape Girardeau County, according to an announcement by U.S. District Judge Stephen N. Limbaugh Jr. The defendant, Danaje Raymond Webster, will also be required to pay $1,999 in restitution alongside his co-defendant, Dayvion Jyraud Parker.

Parker received a sentence of 70 months in prison in March. According to court documents, the theft occurred on June 17, 2024. Webster removed a Sig Sauer 9mm pistol from a display case at a federally licensed firearm dealer and handed it to Parker. Parker initially concealed the pistol under his jacket before giving it back to Webster, who hid it between Parker’s back and the back of Parker’s wheelchair. After purchasing ammunition and a magazine for another firearm, both men left the store.

Store employees discovered the missing pistol and identified the suspects by reviewing surveillance footage. On June 25, law enforcement executed a court-approved search at a residence in Cape Girardeau and found Parker lying on a bed with two pistols hidden between the bed frame and wall. Both pistols were modified with auto sears that converted them into fully automatic weapons.

Webster pleaded guilty in July to one count of stealing a firearm from a licensed dealer. Parker pleaded guilty in October 2024 to five felonies: stealing a firearm from a licensed dealer, two counts of being a felon in possession of a firearm, and two counts of possession of a machine gun.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), the U.S. Marshals Service, and the Cape Girardeau County Sheriff’s Office investigated this case. Assistant U.S. Attorney Timothy Willis prosecuted.

“This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program bringing together all levels of law enforcement and the communities they serve to reduce violent crime and gun violence, and to make our neighborhoods safer for everyone,” according to the press release.
