A Colombian national, Yefferson Josue Pinzon Suarez, has been indicted by a grand jury in U.S. District Court in St. Louis on a felony charge of assaulting a federal employee. The incident involved an officer from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
The indictment follows an event in June when Pinzon Suarez was taken to the Robert A. Young Federal Building after being picked up from the St. Louis County Jail, where he was serving a sentence. According to court documents, during fingerprinting procedures, Pinzon Suarez allegedly bit a deportation officer’s forearm and struck him in the chest.
In March, an immigration judge had ordered Pinzon Suarez’s removal from the United States. He had been residing in Maryland Heights before these proceedings.
It is important to note that charges in an indictment are merely accusations and do not constitute proof of guilt. All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
The case is under investigation by ICE’s Department of Homeland Security, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Colleen Lang handling prosecution duties.
This legal action is part of Operation Take Back America, which aims to address illegal immigration and related criminal activities through coordinated efforts by the Department of Justice and other agencies.
