A Jefferson County, Missouri man has been charged in connection with the fatal distribution of fentanyl that led to a man’s death in early 2024.

Daryn Joshua Odell Karnes, 21, was indicted on December 10 on one count of distribution of fentanyl resulting in death. According to the indictment, Karnes allegedly provided a substance containing fentanyl that caused the death of a man in Jefferson County on January 5, 2024.

Court documents state that a motion for pretrial detention alleges the victim and his girlfriend purchased capsules filled with a combination of fentanyl, xylazine, and heroin from an individual known as “Luh Daryn.” Investigators identified Karnes as the suspected supplier.

Authorities emphasized that “charges set forth in an indictment are merely accusations and do not constitute proof of guilt. Every defendant is presumed to be innocent unless and until proven guilty.”

The investigation was conducted by the Drug Enforcement Administration and the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office. Assistant U.S. Attorney Mohsen Pasha is handling the prosecution.
