A federal jury in Springfield, Missouri, convicted Ahmaad Jarvis, 39, of New York on March 19 for his role in a conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine and fentanyl. Jarvis was found guilty of multiple charges including conspiracy to distribute both drugs, unlawful use of a communications device, and possession with intent to distribute.

The conviction is significant as it addresses the ongoing problem of drug trafficking and related violent crime in the region. According to court documents, investigators from the Drug Enforcement Administration intercepted phone calls between Jarvis and a co-conspirator discussing plans to travel to Los Angeles to obtain narcotics for distribution in Springfield. On October 20, 2023, law enforcement stopped Jarvis’ vehicle as he traveled from Kansas City toward Springfield. A search revealed approximately 10 pounds of methamphetamine and about 400 grams of fentanyl inside his car. Jarvis was the last defendant remaining after thirteen others pleaded guilty.

The jury deliberated for about thirty minutes before returning guilty verdicts at the end of a trial that began March 17 before U.S. District Judge Roseann Ketchmark. Under federal statutes, Jarvis faces a minimum sentence of ten years up to life in prison without parole. Sentencing will be determined by the court following a presentence investigation.

This case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Cameron A. Beaver and Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Hannah R. Lucas with investigative support from several agencies including the Drug Enforcement Administration; Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives; local police departments; sheriff’s offices; and Missouri State Highway Patrol.
