A Kansas City, Missouri man has been indicted by a federal grand jury on charges of attempting to access child pornography over the internet. According to the indictment returned last week, Cody Tyler Titus, 24, faces one count of attempting to access with intent to view child pornography between November 2, 2022, and November 19, 2023. Titus was arrested and made his initial court appearance today.

“The charges contained in this indictment are simply accusations, and not evidence of guilt. Evidence supporting the charges must be presented to a federal trial jury, whose duty is to determine guilt or innocence,” according to officials.

If convicted under federal law for attempted access with intent to view child pornography, Titus could face up to 20 years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000. Sentencing will be determined by the court based on advisory guidelines and other statutory factors after a presentence investigation by the United States Probation Office.

The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Teresa A. Moore and was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

“This case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 by the Department of Justice to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse. Led by the United States Attorneys’ Offices and the Criminal Division’s Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section, Project Safe Childhood marshals federal, state, and local resources to locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who sexually exploit children, and to identify and rescue victims.
