A Kansas City man has been indicted by a federal grand jury for illegal possession of a firearm. Malik Holman, 27, faces one count of being a felon in possession of a firearm, according to an indictment that replaces a previous federal criminal complaint filed on September 5, 2025.

Court documents state that detectives from the Kansas City Missouri Police Department observed Holman with a firearm on September 4, 2025. Officers detained him, found the handgun, and arrested him for possessing it illegally. Earlier that day, Holman had met with his state parole officer.

Federal law prohibits individuals convicted of felonies from possessing firearms or ammunition. Holman has a prior felony conviction for robbery.

“The charges contained in this indictment are simply accusations, and not evidence of guilt. Evidence supporting the charges must be presented to a federal trial jury, whose duty is to determine guilt or innocence.”

Assistant U.S. Attorney Heather Siegele is prosecuting the case. The investigation was conducted by the Kansas City Missouri Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

This prosecution falls under Operation Take Back America, an initiative by the Department of Justice aimed at combating illegal immigration and transnational criminal organizations while protecting communities from violent crime. The operation brings together resources from Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETFs) and Project Safe Neighborhood (PSN).
