A Kansas City, Missouri man has been indicted by a federal grand jury on charges related to illegal firearm possession. Maurquis D. Jennings, 29, faces one count of being a felon in possession of firearms and one count of possessing a machine gun. The indictment, issued on August 12, 2025, alleges that Jennings had a Glock Model 20 Gen5 10mm fully automatic pistol and a Glock Model 30 Gen5 .45 caliber semi-automatic pistol on June 8, 2025. According to the indictment, the Glock Model 20 Gen5 was equipped with a machine gun conversion device.

Machine gun conversion devices—also called “switches” or “auto sears”—are used to convert semi-automatic weapons into fully automatic firearms capable of firing multiple rounds with a single trigger pull. Federal law considers these devices as machine guns whether or not they are attached to firearms, making their possession, sale, or use illegal.

Jennings is prohibited from possessing any firearm or ammunition due to a prior felony conviction for robbery.

“The charges contained in this indictment are simply accusations, and not evidence of guilt. Evidence supporting the charges must be presented to a federal trial jury, whose duty is to determine guilt or innocence,” the release states.

Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Jessica L. Jennings is prosecuting the case following an investigation by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Lee’s Summit Police Department.

This prosecution is part of Operation Take Back America—a nationwide initiative by the Department of Justice aimed at combating illegal immigration and organized crime while protecting communities from violent offenders. The operation brings together resources from Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETFs) and Project Safe Neighborhood (PSN).
