A Kansas City, Missouri man has admitted to robbing a local bank at gunpoint. Richie E. Manley, 50, pleaded guilty in federal court to aiding and abetting bank robbery and carrying a firearm during a crime of violence.

According to court records, on October 3, 2024, at about 10:43 a.m., Manley entered a Kansas City bank. While speaking with a teller, he produced a Smith and Wesson .40 caliber pistol and demanded money. He instructed the tellers to give him “hundreds” while pointing the gun at them. The tellers handed over cash from their drawers before Manley fled the scene. The bank reported losing approximately $2,155 in the robbery and was federally insured by the FDIC.

Manley faces a mandatory minimum sentence of five years in prison and could receive up to life in federal prison without parole. The actual sentence will be determined by the court after reviewing advisory guidelines and other statutory factors following an investigation by the United States Probation Office.

“This case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Jeffrey Q. McCarther,” according to officials involved in the case. The investigation included work from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF), and Kansas City Police Department.

The prosecution is part of Operation Take Back America, an initiative that uses resources from the Department of Justice aimed at addressing illegal immigration, dismantling cartels and transnational criminal organizations, and protecting communities from violent crime.
