A Kansas City man has been sentenced to nearly six years in federal prison for illegally possessing multiple firearms. David Michael Gager, also known as David Kash, 31, received a sentence of 71 months without parole from U.S. District Judge Greg Kays.

Gager pleaded guilty on March 7, 2025, to five counts of knowingly being a felon in possession of firearms during the period from April 19 to May 16, 2024. According to court documents, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) used a confidential informant and an undercover agent to make four controlled firearm purchases from Gager during this time.

During these transactions, Gager told agents he could obtain machineguns and methamphetamine for future deals. He also said he acquired firearms in Kansas City and transported them to Chicago for resale at a profit. On May 9, 2024, officers with the Kansas City Police Department arrested Gager at a convenience store on Prospect Avenue after observing him discard a 9mm handgun into a trashcan when police approached.

“This case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Trey Alford,” according to the press release. “It was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Kansas City, Mo. Police Department.”

The prosecution falls under Operation Take Back America—a nationwide effort led by the Department of Justice aimed at combating illegal immigration and dismantling criminal organizations through coordination between agencies such as OCDETFs (Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces) and Project Safe Neighborhood (PSN).
