A Kansas City, Missouri man was sentenced on Mar. 31 to 11 years in federal prison without parole for illegally possessing a Glock .40 caliber semi-automatic pistol.
Daniel E. Lablance, age 46, received the sentence from U.S. District Judge Greg Kays after being convicted as a felon in possession of a firearm. According to court records, officers responded on Dec. 10, 2023, to E. 59th St. and U.S. 71 Highway regarding a stranded motorist and found Lablance passed out in his vehicle with the firearm on his lap.
When officers attempted to remove Lablance from the car, he fled the scene by putting his vehicle in drive and running over stop sticks that deflated his tires during a police pursuit. He was eventually stopped at Meyer and U.S. 71 Highway and taken into custody while wearing a shoulder bag containing alprazolam pills.
Lablance has nine prior felony convictions before this sentencing hearing.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Brad K. Kavanaugh with investigations conducted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives as well as the Kansas City Police Department.
