Kansas City man sentenced to 20 years for drug trafficking and firearms offenses

Brandon R. Haywood, a 47-year-old resident of Kansas City, Missouri, was sentenced on Mar. 31 to 20 years in federal prison without parole for drug trafficking and firearms violations.

Haywood’s sentencing follows his conviction at a jury trial in September 2025 for possessing cocaine with intent to distribute, possession of a firearm in furtherance of drug trafficking, and being a felon in possession of a firearm. The case highlights ongoing efforts by law enforcement and prosecutors to address violent crime and illegal drugs.

According to court records, law enforcement officers responded on Feb. 4, 2023, to a store in Independence, Missouri regarding an alleged sexual assault involving Haywood. He was later arrested at the same location on Feb. 15 after returning there. Officers subsequently obtained a search warrant for his vehicle and found approximately 30 grams of cocaine along with a Glock Model 23 .40 caliber firearm and Haywood’s wallet inside the center console. Prior felony convictions include voluntary manslaughter in Jackson County Circuit Court.
