A Kansas City, Missouri man has been sentenced to more than nine years in federal prison for illegally possessing a firearm. Shannon J. Price, 30, received a sentence of 115 months from U.S. District Judge Greg Kays after being found guilty of being a felon in possession of a firearm.
Federal law prohibits individuals with felony convictions from possessing firearms or ammunition. Price had multiple prior felony convictions at the time of his arrest.
On July 28, 2023, Price was on probation for aggravated assault when law enforcement officers observed him driving a stolen vehicle as part of an investigation into a stolen automobile ring. Officers followed Price to a convenience store where he entered with a loaded firearm while other customers were present. When Price noticed law enforcement officers, he hid the loaded weapon on a low shelf inside the store. Officers detained him and recovered the firearm before anyone else could access it. The incident was recorded by surveillance cameras.
The case was prosecuted by Department of Justice Trial Attorney Sarah J. Rasalam and investigated by the FBI.
This prosecution is part of an operation under the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETF) program, which focuses on identifying and dismantling major criminal organizations through coordinated efforts among various agencies.
