A North Kansas City man has been indicted by a federal grand jury for allegedly aiming a laser pointer at an aircraft. Aaron Randall Class, 53, faces one count in the indictment, which was returned under seal on August 12, 2025, and unsealed following his arrest.
According to the indictment, Class is accused of knowingly directing a laser beam at an aircraft within United States jurisdiction on or about November 23, 2024.
Authorities emphasize that the charges are accusations and not evidence of guilt. “Evidence supporting the charges must be presented to a federal trial jury, whose duty is to determine guilt or innocence,” according to officials.
If convicted under federal statutes, Class could face up to five years in prison. The actual sentence will be determined by the court after considering advisory sentencing guidelines and other statutory factors. A sentencing hearing will take place after a presentence investigation conducted by the United States Probation Office.
The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Trey Alford and Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Branon Chlarson. The North Kansas City Police Department led the investigation.
