A St. Charles, Missouri man has admitted to embezzling more than $400,000 from his employer over several years. Talon Lewis, 33, pleaded guilty on Thursday in U.S. District Court in St. Louis to one count of mail fraud.

According to court documents, Lewis worked as an accounts payable specialist at a medical business from October 21, 2019 to at least February 19, 2025. He was responsible for processing patient refunds and had access to lists of patients who were owed money. Prosecutors say that Lewis added fake patients to these refund lists and directed refund checks either to himself or the addresses of friends and acquaintances. These individuals would then return 30% of the fraudulent proceeds back to Lewis.

Lewis admitted that this scheme resulted in the theft of more than $400,000 from his employer.

Sentencing is scheduled for April 16. The charge of mail fraud carries a maximum penalty of up to 20 years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000.

The case was investigated by the U.S. Postal Inspection Service and is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Derek Wiseman.
