A St. Charles, Missouri resident pleaded guilty in federal court to charges related to a fatal shooting that occurred during a marijuana transaction in 2023.
Trevon Carson, 31, entered his plea Wednesday in U.S. District Court in St. Louis. He admitted to one count of conspiracy to distribute marijuana and one count of discharge of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime resulting in death.
According to court documents, Carson accompanied another individual who intended to purchase and resell marijuana on May 25, 2023. The meeting took place in an alley behind the 4800 block of Farlin Avenue in St. Louis. During the transaction, the victim—who was with the seller—was armed with an AR-style firearm. Carson stated he feared the victim would use the weapon, prompting him to leave his vehicle and fatally shoot the victim before taking his gun. Afterward, Carson drove away from the scene with the buyer.
As part of a plea agreement, prosecutors have agreed to request a prison sentence of 20 years for Carson.
The case was investigated by both the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department and the FBI. Assistant U.S. Attorney Ryan Finlen is overseeing prosecution efforts.
