A St. Louis County man has been sentenced to 54 months in prison after pleading guilty to being a felon in possession of firearms following a shooting incident involving his girlfriend.

According to court documents, Demetrius D. Vaughn, 31, admitted that on May 6, 2024, he fired six to seven shots from the balcony of his apartment during a dispute with his then-girlfriend. The gunfire struck the woman in both legs while she was with friends. Police arrested Vaughn later that day and recovered two handguns, one of which had been reported stolen. As a convicted felon, Vaughn is legally barred from possessing firearms.

The case was investigated by the Saint Louis County Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. Assistant U.S. Attorney Catherine Hoag prosecuted the case.

U.S. District Judge Audrey G. Fleissig handed down the sentence on Wednesday.
