A St. Louis man has admitted to shooting at an undercover police officer while being investigated for drug-related activities. Anthony Stallworth, 25, entered a guilty plea in U.S. District Court in St. Louis on Tuesday. He faced charges including possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine and fentanyl, distribution of fentanyl, and discharging a firearm during a drug trafficking crime.

The incident occurred on October 10, 2019, when Stallworth sold 28 capsules of fentanyl to an undercover officer. Five days later, during another arranged meeting for the sale of fentanyl, Stallworth led the officer in his Mercedes SUV before firing two shots towards the officer’s vehicle at a stop sign.

In the summer of 2023, law enforcement observed Stallworth involved in drug transactions on Wilcox Avenue in St. Louis. A court-sanctioned search of an apartment led to the discovery of Stallworth along with substantial quantities of methamphetamine and fentanyl, a firearm, and drug paraphernalia.

Stallworth is scheduled for sentencing on September 9 and faces a minimum prison term of 15 years due to mandatory sentencing guidelines.

The case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives alongside the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Jennifer Szczucinski is prosecuting the case.

This investigation falls under Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), which aims to reduce violent crime through collaborative efforts between law enforcement agencies and communities. The Department launched an enhanced violent crime reduction strategy on May 26, 2021, focusing on community trust and strategic enforcement priorities.
