A St. Louis man was sentenced to 12 years in prison after being found with three firearms, despite a prior felony conviction that barred him from possessing guns.

Derrick Lamar Rodgers, 34, pleaded guilty in May to one count of being a felon in possession of a firearm. According to court documents, Rodgers was arrested on May 24, 2024, by the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department’s Fugitive Apprehension Strike Team while he was wanted on multiple warrants. During his arrest, officers discovered a 9mm handgun and plastic baggies containing synthetic cannabinoid in his cross-body satchel. They also recovered a shotgun and a stolen Hi-Point 9mm handgun.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Nicholas Lake told the court that Rodgers has an “atrocious” criminal history filled with violent acts, particularly against women.

U.S. District Judge Henry E. Autrey ordered that Rodgers’ federal sentence run concurrently with pending cases in St. Louis Circuit Court as part of an agreement between both sides.

The case was investigated by the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department and prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Nicholas Lake.
