A Tennessee man has been sentenced to more than 11 years in prison for stealing firearms from vehicles in Missouri. U.S. District Judge Sarah E. Pitlyk handed down the 137-month sentence on Tuesday to Corterian L. Wright, 42, for his role in a series of vehicle break-ins that occurred in Scott County and New Madrid County in 2023.

Wright pleaded guilty in April to one count of being a felon in possession of a firearm. According to court documents, he admitted to stealing five handguns from vehicles on October 24, 2023. The thefts were part of a string of 24 vehicle break-ins that took place over three and a half hours at several businesses across both counties.

As a convicted felon, Wright is prohibited from possessing firearms.

The investigation was conducted by the Matthews Police Department, the New Madrid County Sheriff’s Office, the New Madrid Police Department, the Scott County Sheriff’s Office, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. Assistant U.S. Attorney Christopher Shelton prosecuted the case.
