Three sentenced for drug smuggling conspiracy at Lincoln County Jail

A former contract employee at the Lincoln County Jail, Kevin Childers Jr., has been sentenced to 51 months in prison for his involvement in smuggling fentanyl and methamphetamine into the facility. U.S. District Judge Henry E. Autrey handed down the sentence on Monday.

Childers, 38, was one of three individuals who pleaded guilty to conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute fentanyl and methamphetamine. The other two involved were Steven Williamson Jr., 37, an inmate trustee working in the jail kitchen at the time of the offense, and Brittany Spangler, 35, Williamson’s girlfriend.

According to court documents, all three conspired to bring illegal drugs into the jail between June 27, 2022, and October 6, 2022. Childers managed the jail kitchen as a contract employee during this period.

Judge Autrey previously sentenced Williamson to 51 months in prison and Spangler to 37 months for their roles in the scheme.

The investigation was conducted by the FBI and the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office. Assistant U.S. Attorney Christine Krug prosecuted the case.
