Two residents of St. Charles County, Gua Liang Ye and De Jin Ye, both 56, have been indicted by a grand jury on charges related to harboring illegal aliens. According to the indictment, the two are accused of concealing individuals who were in the United States illegally.
The arrests took place on Tuesday and were carried out by Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) along with the FBI. The indictment alleges that both defendants knowingly concealed these individuals from detection.
Authorities emphasized that an indictment is only an accusation at this stage. “A charge set forth in an indictment is merely an accusation and do not constitute proof of guilt. Every defendant is presumed to be innocent unless and until proven guilty,” according to officials.
If convicted, each faces up to 10 years in prison, a fine of up to $250,000, or both.
The investigation is being conducted by HSI and the FBI. Assistant U.S. Attorney Dianna Edwards is handling the prosecution.
