The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Western District of Missouri reported collections totaling more than $9.7 million from criminal and civil actions during Fiscal Year 2025, according to an announcement by U.S. Attorney R. Matthew Price. Of this sum, $9,042,015.71 was recovered in criminal cases while $684,459.72 came from civil matters.

Additionally, the office collected $5,514,787 through asset forfeiture proceedings in the same period. The funds obtained through asset forfeiture are deposited into the Department of Justice Assets Forfeiture Fund and can be used to compensate crime victims or support law enforcement initiatives.

Price commented on the efforts of his team: “The attorneys and support staff in our Monetary Penalties Unit (MPU) are committed to collecting on behalf of victims of crime and taxpayers,” he said. “Through the MPU’s diligent efforts, victims of crime have received restitution for what they lost at the hands of criminal defendants. In the Western District of Missouri, defendants do not – and will not – profit from their illegal activities.”

The office also collaborated with other U.S. Attorney’s Offices and divisions within the Department of Justice to collect an additional $8,624,051.35 in joint cases—$52,264.86 from criminal actions and $8,571,786.49 from civil actions.

U.S. Attorneys’ Offices work alongside department litigating divisions to enforce collection of both civil and criminal debts owed to the federal government as well as debts owed to federal crime victims. By law, defendants convicted of certain federal crimes must pay restitution if their offenses caused physical injury or financial loss; such payments go directly to victims while fines and felony assessments are directed into the Crime Victims Fund for broader victim compensation programs.
