U.S. District Judge Matthew T. Schelp sentenced Francisco J. Ocana-Talamantes, an undocumented immigrant living in St. Charles County, Missouri, to 10 years in prison for possessing child sexual abuse material, according to a March 11 announcement.
The case highlights ongoing efforts by law enforcement and federal prosecutors to address crimes involving the exploitation of children.
Ocana-Talamantes, who is now 48 years old, was arrested on March 8, 2024, after being accused of abusing a child. Authorities conducted a court-approved search of his phone and found 338 images and videos containing child sexual abuse material. He pleaded guilty in December in U.S. District Court in St. Louis to one count of possession of child pornography.
After serving his sentence, Ocana-Talamantes will be deported because he is in the United States illegally. The investigation involved the FBI, the St. Charles Police Department, and the St. Charles County Cyber Crime Task Force. Assistant U.S. Attorney Jillian Anderson prosecuted the case.
This prosecution was part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched by the Department of Justice in May 2006 to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse online. The program brings together federal, state, and local resources to locate offenders and rescue victims.
